Storyline:

Munna Bhai (Sanjay Dutt) and his gang are the typical 'Bhai's in Mumbai. They claim to be social workers helping out people in recovery (through kidnapping, haath-paiir todna) etc., Once a year, Munna's parents (Sunil Dutt and Rohini Hattangadi) visit him. They are under the impression that Munna is a doctor in Mumbai and running a hospital in his father's name. Munna would have lied to his father so as to not hurt him. But, when his parents are visiting him, he has to fake it that he is a doctor. so, the dhobi ghat where he lives becomes a hospital and his goons don the doctor's gowns. Everything looks picture perfect when his parents visit him.

Accidentally, Munna's father meets an acquaintance Dr. Asthana (Boman Irani) who was a doctor in the village from where Munna hails from and now a big doctor in Mumbai. Among the other things, they discuss the marriage of Munna with Asthana's daughter Chinki (Gracy Singh) who is also a doctor. Before anything could go wrong, Munna calls Chinki and tells her that he is not a doctor and asks her to reject him. But, things go differently and Dr. Asthana's housemaid tells him that Munna is a 'Bhai' and not a doctor. Accordingly, Munna and his parents are treated badly and humiliated. Munna's father is disappointed with his son and goes back to his village.

Munna then makes a resolve to become a doctor. He joins a medical college by cheating in the entrance exam and by producing a fake HSE certificate. Coincidentally, he joins the same college where his enemy Dr. Asthana is the Dean. Trouble starts brewing between them. Munna bhai is feared in the beginning as he is a 'Bhai'. He has his hilarious ways and soon becomes the blue-eyed-boy of the campus winning everyone's heart.

He makes people laugh and live life with 'no tension'. He keeps telling people 'apun hai na?'. Circuit (Arshad Warsi) is his right hand who helps him througout this adventures and misadventures; right from getting a body for disection to advising him on different issues. He helps cancer prone zahir (Jimmy Shergill) to enjoy life. He cares for one Anand bhai who has been in coma from a long long time and believes that he would speak one day. He brings to life a dying old man who is in fact the father of the Associate Dean in the hospital.

Meanwhile, he falls in love with Dr. Suman who is actually his childhood friend Chinki but doesnt know her as he had not seen Chinki in a long long time. Love grows between them and be proposes to her. But, she doesn't say a thing in reply.

His activities irritate Dr. Asthana and he plans to rustigate him from the college. During a dramatic question hour session regarding his further stay in the college, Munna gets disturbed by the death of Zahir and he feels that he was unable to do anything about it. Munna then gets emotional and accepts that he wouldnt pursue medical education and goes away. But then, a miracle happens and the coma patient wakes up, thanks to Munna bhai's words. All the medical staff feel happy about the miracle. His daughter then gets sarcastic about the strictness of her father and tells that there is no use of it. Asthana then realises his folly.

In the closing scenes, Munna gets to know that Dr. Suman and Chinki are the same and she expresses his willingness to marry him. Munna's father feels proud of his son's ability to make people's life happier. Soon, the scene changes and the Charitable hospital that munna used to fake about becomes a reality with Dr. Asthana taking over the operations and he starts treating his patients in a friendly manner following 'Munna's' style. Although Munna bhai does not become a doctor, he becomes an MBBS (Miya beewi, Bacche samet)

Comment:

The movie can make u laugh non-stop except for some serious scenes that are very few in that movie. The tapori style of Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi is just too good. Sunil Dutt has acted after a really really long time of 17 years. Gracy Singh is graceful and sweet. Boman Irani has done a good job as a Strict Dean of the medical college who accidentally believes in Laughter therapy. Although the punchline of the movie says "He might just cure you", forget about the curing, he will surely make you laugh!!
